RICHARD LANGE – THE FAMILY’S SCIENTIST.

The RICHARD LANGE “Pour le Mérite” preserves the tradition of scientific pocket chronometers with a fusée-and-chain mechanism that were crafted at A. Lange & Söhne under the technical super-vision of Richard Lange. That is why it has been named after this progressive watchmaker.

Also, the attribute “Pour le Mérite” tells connoisseurs of Lange watch-making artistry that this timepiece ranks among the manufactory’s most outstanding creations: it features refined engineering, a lavishly finished movement, and last, but not least a three-part enamel dial, the result of a complex manufacturing process.

AN AESTHETICALLY FLAWLESS PRECISION INSTRUMENT.

Before it eventually graces the space beneath the sapphire-crystal glass, each of its three subdials is processed in 30 time-consuming steps, then painted by hand, and finally fired at about 800°C. The reward for this effort is an immaculate, radiant white enamel surface over which the blued-steel lancet-shaped hands hover in perfect contrast.

REDUCTION TO THE ESSENCE.

This watch also owes its excellent legibility to the crisp design of
the minute and seconds scale as well as to the absence of other displays. As was the case in Lange’s legendary pocket chronometers, the dial has been systematically reduced to the elements that serve the purpose of exact time measurement:
the indication of hours, minutes, and seconds. A stop-seconds mechanism allows the time to be set with one-second accuracy.
